Digital Dali

normal_digital_dali_jun_04.jpgDigital Persistence of Memory.
Inspired by Salvador Dali’s melting clocks, this digital clock
prototype designed by Ross McBride has a silicon exterior that’s soft
to the touch. Details include a power cord that run out the bottom of
the clock so that it can be concealed by a tabletop or shelf. Other
designs include the electro-luminescent Time Table (reminiscent of de light), and the multi-functional Swiss Army Table. Via Wrist Fashion.

Soviet RESURRECTION Experiment Video

by: merck

A video filmed in the 1940s, shows how the Soviets successfully resurrected a severed dog head, also how they were able to stop a heart of a dog for up to 15 minutes and resurrect it again with blood circulation mechanism, with surprisingly no brain damage! From what I understand this is real historically documented footage.

Future of advertising photoshopping contest

By Cory Doctorow:

This Worth1000 photoshopping contest to imagine the future of
advertising has lots of interesting entries, including this one — a
heavily logoed endangered elephant; I could actually see
conservationists financing their work this way.

PSPromotion (PSPron.avi)

We recently got a PSP as a present for one of the Tokyopia crew
(yea, hard to believe he didn’t already have one).  As part of the
gift, one of our more talented members put this together to make sure
the recipient knew what to do.

Unforunately we can’t handle the bandwidth for this at Tokyopia so we’ve setup a torrent for it. Here is the PSP version
which is the recommened way to view it. Download it and copy the folder
to your PSP’s video folder and watch it on your PSP. If you are a
PSLoser and don’t have a PSP then here is an AVI version.

We have no problem if you want to host this somewhere else but

Solar Powered Wallpaper

Solar Powered Wallpaper

The
Solar Powered Wallpaper was created by embedding electroluminescent
materials into the pattern of the wallpaper and incorporating a light
sensor.

The wallpaper responds to the lighting requirement of a room, acting
as a decorative element when a room is naturally bright, and as a
wallpaper light when the space requires more light.

With power supplied from a solar charged battery or standard
electricity, it can also be manually controlled to increase or decrease
luminosity.

It was developed by Marta Lwin, with Ty Whitfield, Teresita Cochran,
and Ramakrishnan Subramanian during the Sustainable Energy Class at ITP.

The work is on show at the Interactive Multimedia Culture expo, on April 14th - 23rd, at the Chelsea Art Museum, in New York.

Opus 5

opus_v_hot_watch.jpg

I desperately
want this watch. Max Busser and Felix Baumgartner collaborated to
create the Opus 5, a completely innovative watch that makes use of
what’s known as a “satellite hour” display. The style is absolutely
gorgeous and the movement is complicated and new:

The
hour hands rotates while each blocks rotates and as it reaches the
minute indicator it is the correct numeral that is shown. Note that the
minute arrow is not connected to the hour cube and once the arrow gets
to 60 it will drop down to 0 to meet the next rotating hour block.

It also features a 5-year service indicator, much like my Honda (and
probably more expensive), to tell you when to bring it back for basic
maintenance. Limited edition with only 100 available (in platinum or
pink gold, with or without diamonds), the price is something of a
mystery but I’m guessing it’s more than both my kidneys combined.

(Update: Reader Kerry informs us that the watch goes for
$106,680 for the rose gold and $137,000 for the platinum models. So I
was right about the kidney thing.)

3D Flat Panel With No Glasses

By timothy on my-flat-panel-has-no-glasses

m4c north writes “From Japan Today: ‘Toshiba Corp said Friday it has developed a brand-new flat-display that allows viewers to see three-dimensional images without using special glasses. The display is expected to be applied to arcade games, virtual menus at restaurants and simulations of buildings and landscapes. The company said it aims to commercialize the display within two years.’ JCN Network offers a few more details than Japan Today’s rather short summary. And Toshiba’s [toshiba.co.jp] press release has some simple figures. Maybe pinball will make a comeback!”

Octave 13Odile 06Oscar 08

French designer David L’Hôte
seems to be just as fed up with wires as I am. Centfils (translating to
something like 100 wires) is a series of design concepts that address
the increasingly problematic proliferation of electrical wires. From
left to right: Octave goes under the desk for all those computer
peripherals, Odile on top of the desk for the mobile devices and Oscar
in the kids room. Oscar even doubles as a night-light. Each design,
essentially a highly functional power strip, also features a flat power
cord with adjustable length.
